on the international competition scene! March 25, 2005

Beijing, China. China Fashion Week and the International Hempel fashion Award.

AE CUDE designer Elizabeth Tsai (our entry) moved judges and crowds with her stunning outfits. The theme this year was the Olympic Games and of the more than hundred initial entries 56 were selected as finalist with the majority from Europe. The international Jury from England, USA, France, Belgium/Australia (Mieke Leppens director of AE CUDE), Korea, China and Japan agreed on the winners with Elizabeth coming 3rd in the competition in the footsteps of two Chinese entries.
The garments of her collection were based on the traditional raincoat pouch that could be folded into a carry bag to be worn on the back or worn as pants, tops and skirts. Her choice of materials was rubber, silk and pleated polyester in red and cream. The latter took her two weeks to paint and Elizabeth occupied a large part of the studio to produce the fabrics. All in all the collection had a strong Mao suit reference with a twist. The confidence with which Elizabeth entered this understated collection shows strength and understanding of design elements. She deserved the price and we congratulate her for her achievement.
The show was a very lavish affair with a large international photographic press gallery and dignitaries form China and the Chinese garment industry. As price Elizabeth received Aus. $1000.00, and an invitation to visit the Hempel headquarters in Shanghai.

trade mission from Thailand!

Finding manufacturers overseas is difficult for the best of us. In April AE CUDE hosted a trade delegation from Thailand to Sydney to help Australian young designers find the right connection. Several Young designers were present in the studio to meet with the delegation of clothing, shoes, leather manufacturers and furniture makers. After a small presentation that explained to the group what the requirements were in terms of minimums and prices an understanding was reached between the designers present and the manufacturers. The mission was a real success with two designers of the group reaching a formal agreement for production. If you are looking for a manufacturer in Asia contact us for information.

AE CUDE & Sydney Esquisse . . .

March 11, 2005

AE CUDE opened its doors for the launch of the Sydney Esquisse art and design festival. More than 150 eagerly anticipating designers, artists, critics and beautifully attired people, filed through the doors to check out the works on display. Zipping Bombay Sapphire cocktails, the bar had difficulty keeping up with the connoisseurs, who watched in amazement as Jason Daxs Woodward, aka Kasino, painted a larger than life size self portrait on the studio wall.
